Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Snippet Keeper (“the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Snippet Keeper is provided by Kevin Ekart, Jeffersonville, Indiana, United States. If you have questions, email support@snippetkeeper.app.
In short: with a license, your snippets never leave your Mac. With an account, we store your snippets so they can sync and be shared with the people you choose. We don’t sell your information, show ads, or put analytics or tracking in the app.
Your clipboard: the app writes to your clipboard when you copy a snippet. It reads the clipboard
only when you copy a snippet that uses {{@clipboard}}, to fill that value in; what it reads isn’t
stored or sent anywhere. Copies of snippets marked Sensitive are cleared from the clipboard after 90 seconds.
The snip command-line tool (optional) reads the copy of your snippets already on
your Mac. It doesn’t connect to our servers or send anything.
1. Using Snippet Keeper with a license (no account)
Your snippets, apps, history and trash are stored only in a file on your Mac. We never receive them.
To activate and check your license, the app contacts Lemon Squeezy (our payment and licensing provider) with:
- your license key;
- a name for this Mac, based on its computer name (for example “Alexs-MacBook-Pro (Mac)”), so you can tell your activations apart;
- an activation ID Lemon Squeezy assigns to this Mac.
The app re-checks the license about once a day. It also asks our server how long your license’s updates last; for that we keep a one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself) and the date your updates run until. The app stores a non-reversible identifier for your Mac locally to tie the activation to it; that identifier is not sent to anyone.
2. Using Snippet Keeper with an account
When you create an account and use the app, we store:
- Account details: your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google or GitHub. If you use a password, it is stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider.
- Your content: the snippets, apps (collections), tags and notes you create; deleted items for 30 days (the Trash); and up to the last 50 versions of each snippet (History), including who made each change.
- Organizations: the organizations you belong to, your role, invitations you send or receive (including the invitee’s email address), and who can see restricted apps.
- Usage within the app: your favorites, how many times you’ve copied each snippet and when you last did. These are used for the Favorites and Recently used views and aren’t shared with others in your organizations.
- Plan and billing status: your trial dates, your subscription status, plan, renewal date, number of seats, and the email address used at checkout, as reported to us by Lemon Squeezy.
People in an organization can see that organization’s content, its member list (names and email addresses) and who last edited each snippet. Owners and admins can also see pending invitations.
Encryption: your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our hosting provider, and access is restricted by organization and role. It is not end-to-end encrypted, which means our infrastructure and, in principle, we can access it. We only do so when needed to operate the service, to help you when you ask us to, or when required by law. We recommend not storing passwords, API keys or other secrets in snippets.
On your Mac: the app keeps a cached copy of your organizations’ snippets and any changes not yet synced, so it opens quickly and works offline. Signing out deletes the cache. Your sign-in session is stored locally by the app.
3. Payments
Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy; we never see your full card details. We receive order and subscription information (such as your email, what you bought, its status and renewal date) so we can give you access.
4. Updates and the website
- The app checks for updates by downloading release information from GitHub, which can see your IP address as with any download.
- This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits (such as pages viewed, the site that referred you, and your country and type of device). It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t track you across other websites, and doesn’t create a profile of you. The website has no advertising or tracking cookies. Our website host may also keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability.
- Opening links to sign in with Google or GitHub, or to checkout, takes you to those services, under their own policies.
5. The launch waitlist
If you sign up on this website to be notified when Snippet Keeper launches, we store your email address, which plan you’re interested in and, for companies, the team size and message you choose to give us. We use them only to send a confirmation, one launch announcement, and to reply to your questions. We send these emails through Resend. To be removed, reply to any of our emails or contact us; we delete the list once it’s no longer needed after launch.
6. Emails
We send emails needed to use your account: sign-in links and codes, email confirmation, password resets, and important notices about your account or billing. We don’t send marketing emails without your consent.
7. Who processes your information
We use these providers to run Snippet Keeper. They process information only on our behalf or as described above:
- Supabase – database, authentication and server functions (hosted in the eastern United States).
- Lemon Squeezy – payments, subscriptions and license keys (merchant of record).
- GitHub – hosting app updates, and sign-in if you choose “Continue with GitHub”.
- Google – sign-in if you choose “Continue with Google”.
- Resend – sending account and waitlist emails.
- Cloudflare Pages – hosting this website.
We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply to your information).
8. How long we keep it
- Account data and content: until you delete it or delete your account.
- Trash: 30 days, then permanently deleted. History: the most recent 50 versions of each snippet.
- When you delete your account, we delete your account, your Personal space and your usage data. Snippets you added to an organization belong to that organization and stay there (without your name attached), and organizations you were the only member of are deleted.
- Billing records may be kept as long as needed for tax and accounting purposes.
- Backups made by our hosting provider are deleted on its regular schedule, within 7 days.
9. Your choices and rights
- Access and export: use Export all in the app to download your snippets at any time.
- Correction: edit your content in the app, or contact us about account details.
- Deletion: delete individual items, or your whole account from Account → Delete account.
- Licenses: License → Deactivate this Mac removes this Mac’s activation.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. To exercise any right, email support@snippetkeeper.app. We process account data to provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract) and to keep it secure (legitimate interests).
Our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, they use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
10. Children
Snippet Keeper isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and for significant changes we’ll let account holders know by email or in the app before they take effect.
